Violent Threats, Bomb Threats Plague Local Schools
For the second time this week, Lafayette High School was locked down after another online threat was posted and shared among students before being reported to the school. Once again, law enforcement responded quickly, and hopefully they are close to finding out who is responsible. Meanwhile, a bomb threat forced the evacuation of students from another local school, St. Martinville Jr. High. If students are behind these threats, as is expected, then at some point we have to have a discussion on how to convince them this isn’t a horrible prank, but a life-shattering mistake they are making.
An Interesting State Senate Race
The all-time winningest college basketball coach in Louisiana retired in the spring. Now, though, he is looking at a run in politics. He will be running to represent Senate District 31 in north Louisiana. While I know and love Coach McConathy, that does pit him, a Republican, against a staunch conservative in Rep. Alan Seabaugh, who is term-limited in the House. There are a lot of factors at play here, and I want to break them down.
The Midterms: Herschel Walker’s Chances
Walker is likely not in trouble with the people who were already going to support him. He is going to keep the right and far-right. But it’s the center-right, many of whom were hesitant, who might decide to stay home. At the same time, however, oil prices and crime, among other issues, are still plaguing voters and they hold the Democratic Party possible. It’s another “lesser of two evils” in that case, and Walker (though it’s getting to be more and more of a long shot) could still win.
