Jeff Landry’s Major Endorsement
Major drama out of Louisiana today as the Louisiana GOP’s executive committee voted over the weekend to endorse Jeff Landry for Governor. Someone leaked that vote to Jeremy Alford and, while everyone has been particularly focused on the midterms, there has been a lot of angry chatter in the background about it.
And in the foreground, potential contenders are extremely upset.
There’s a lot to break down in this. We’ll talk about it on today’s show.
The Midterms Are Tomorrow
Despite all the Louisiana drama, we can’t ignore the fact that the midterm elections are tomorrow, and there is a lot going on there as well. Right now, I’d peg the Republicans at 52 Senate seats, control of the House, and I am even leaning toward Lee Zeldin winning the governor’s race in New York. The data simply does not look good for Democrats.
Couple that with my morning piece on the Wall Street Journal’s data: Black and Hispanic voters are trending toward the GOP in numbers we’ve never seen before. That’s a pretty big sign of disaster approaching.
But… Trump
There is a rumor going around that Trump will announce his candidacy for 2024 tonight. If true, that’s a huge mistake. He’s going to be at a rally with J.D. Vance, the GOP Senate candidate for Ohio. He’s expected to say he’s running while he’s on stage. I’m not totally convinced he will, and I wouldn’t be surprised if someone from his camp leaked it just to get more media coverage on the rally.
But, if he does do it, I don’t think he’s calculated the effect properly. There are a lot of pro-Trump pundits and supporters out there who were deeply disappointed in Trump over the weekend when he attacked Ron DeSantis, calling him “Ron DeSanctimonious” and attack him over his COVID-19 policies.
