Apparently, Trump Is Gonna Announce
About a week after the midterms, if reports are to be believed. There are a few things to note, though:
He can only be President for one term. A person can only serve two terms max.
He and DeSantis can’t share a ticket. They are both Florida residents, and per the Constitution, if the nominees for President and Vice President are from the same state, you can’t count those electoral votes.
Trump thinks he has a mandate, given that the majority of his candidates this cycle are poised to win. But there is no mandate for him. There is just one for Republicans.
The GOP’s polling went down in the summer while Trump was in the headlines (Mar-a-Lago, etc.).
Nevertheless, it appears to be something that is happening. He apparently wants to announce on November 14th.
The Home Stretch - Polls
Here is the latest polling, as shown by RealClearPolitics.
That screenshot suggests a 53-47 Senate. RCP is thinking 54 seats is possible. I’m still not convinced on Pennsylvania. But you can expect one thing: Republicans are going to have a good night.
Battleground: …New York?
Let’s set the mood first.
Now, from the Washington Post:
Democrats across the country scrambled Thursday to bolster candidates in places President Biden carried safely in 2020, the latest sign of panic that they could face major losses in next week’s midterm elections.
Vice President Harris and former secretary of state Hillary Clinton held a joint rally in an effort to rescue New York Gov. Kathy Hochul (D), who faces a close race in a state Republicans haven’t won in two decades. Biden traveled to New Mexico and Southern California to support vulnerable Democratic incumbents — bypassing Arizona and Nevada, where officials fear he could be a drag on senators in tight races. Biden and Harris plan to spend part of the weekend in Illinois, boosting House candidates in suburban districts that have been trending back toward Republicans since 2020.
In New York, it’s the same combination it is everywhere else: Inflation for everyone, crime in the big city. New York City residents elected a moderate Democrat because he used to be a cop and promised to be tough on crime. Things are still bad, and Gov. Kathy Hochul is totally aloof on it.
