I will probably have a bit more on this in the morning, but there are a few thoughts I’d like to get out now while I’m thinking about it. The problem is, of course, that it’s Mardi Gras and I am preparing all sorts of things to cook. Incidentally, I’ll share with y’all one of those recipes in a bit.
Yesterday, we inadvertently received a preview of what Joe Biden’s State of the Union address tonight will be.
So, Biden will probably open or close with a declaration of victory over the pandemic. He will say that we’ve gotten through the worst of it and that our lives can go back to normal. His administration resisted the reality that we are beyond masking, beyond up-ending our lives all because they gave in to fear of a virus that the actual data told us was not as serious as time went on.
The pandemic is now endemic. His administration never wanted to admit it, but the polling is just awful.
And that’s where we are now. Biden’s administration will give in fully to presiding in reaction to polls. His talk about the pandemic is based on horrible numbers there. The part of the speech where he talks about what he’s done in response to Russian aggression will be based on horrible numbers there.
He will try to paint a rosier picture on the economy than what you and I actually face. His team has seen what voters think about his handling of the economy, and they will try to convince you and I that we’re on the other side of that mountain, too.
But… no one is really going to believe it. Most of us are experiencing the highest gas prices we’ve seen in years. We’re seeing shortages in everything from groceries to car inventory, and it’s not letting up. But in his State of the Union address, we will be promised that it’s all about to change.
But only if we pass the Build Back Better legislation that is dead in the water in the Senate.
That will be how he ends the night. He will remind us that this legislation is the only way to fix all our problems. And the media will go along with it and the far left will go along with it. Never mind that BBB will only do more of what Biden has already done to get us where we are now.
It will be a predictable speech. It will be blessedly short. Nothing will change. Luckily, he scheduled this speech for Mardi Gras. So grab a drink.
