Fetterman Couldn’t Even Meet Low Expectations
John Fetterman’s team spent most of yesterday setting low expectations. With a low bar, all your candidate has to do is meet it and it’s a win… and he couldn’t even do that. This is just one clip, but it’s indicative of the mess that was Fetterman’s debate performance.
His campaign blamed the closed captioning system, only for Nexstar, whose station hosted the debate, to come out and publicly say that they offered to let the campaign test the closed captioning system multiple times. It was just a bad night. Everyone in the media is saying it was a bad night, and the media seems ready to go ahead and call this race a loss so they can blame the Senate falling to the GOP on Fetterman rather than the Democratic Party as a whole.
But In New York…
The media won’t talk about last night’s New York gubernatorial debate, because incumbent Gov. Kathy Hochul simply did not do well against her GOP opponent, Congressman Lee Zeldin.
She actually said she didn’t know why Zeldin was so fixated about crime and punishment. This is, of course, the same Lee Zeldin who came face-to-face with a rabid progressive who tried to stab him at a campaign event a couple months back. That rabid progressive was back on the streets within hours.
Gee, I wonder why he cares.
Some More Louisiana 2023 Talk
Bill Cassidy has a fundraiser tonight. Some folks think he’ll announce a bid for Governor there. But, wait. There’s more.
WILL HE OR WON’T HE?: Friends and supporters of U.S. Sen. Bill Cassidy say the Baton Rouge politico is leaning towards running for governor and is getting more aggressive about 2023. Supporters will get to hear from him directly this afternoon at a fundraising reception at the Watermark at 5 p.m. in the Founders Room.
GARRET & SARAH: As he juggles his own potential bid for governor, Congressman Garret Graves will attend a reception this evening at the Country Club of Louisiana alongside Arkansas gubernatorial candidate Sarah Huckabee Sanders, who made a name for herself working for President Donald Trump. The Republican Governors Association will surely be thankful…
That’s via Jeremy Alford with La Politics Weekly. It would be an interesting, though chaotic, Republican race.
