Bigger Lead Than 2014
In 2014, there was a Red Wave. The Republicans had already re-taken the House in the previous midterm election. It was a good election cycle for the GOP, and going into it, they had really good polling numbers.
At present, the generic congressional ballot trends are better than they were in 2014. As a result, here is RealClearPolitics’ current projection for the U.S. Senate.
They are projecting that Georgia, Arizona, and Nevada flip and that the GOP retains Wisconsin, Ohio, and Pennsylvania. That’s a huge prediction, but it’s not impossible to predict that outcome given the current trends.
Remember yesterday, when a poll out of Pennsylvania showed Oz picking up an astounding 14 percent of the black vote? Here’s why, and that is a big part of the problem for Democrats.
The January 6 Committee Subpoenas Donald Trump
It’s official. They’ve done it. They’ve subpoenaed Donald Trump to appear before them in a hearing tentatively scheduled for November 14. So, it won’t happen before the midterms, it won’t provide any new information, and it could very likely spend so much time in the courts that it missed the November 14 deadline. If Trump decides to fight it, it could be in the courts long enough for the subpoena to die - Congressional subpoenas are only active while the current Congress is in session. The moment the next Congress is sworn it, it dies and it definitely won’t be picked up by the next Congress.
As an aside, they picked a specific time and day to do this for a reason.
Can We Fix Thursday Night Football?
Look, I’m not just saying this as a Saints fan. I think Andy Dalton is getting a lot of crap he doesn’t deserve. The guy ahead of him on the bench was playing poorly, so he’s had to step up at a time when the best offensive weapons out there are out due to injury. He completed almost 2 out of every 3 passes for 361 yards, four touchdowns, and an average of almost 8 yards per completion. Yes, there were three interceptions, but overall it was probably one of the better Thursday night football games.
But, good lord, what a low bar. Thursday night football games have been atrocious. I think the NFL really thought long and hard about it and decided to take the least interesting games and just stick them out of the way on a for-pay streaming service. That’s the only explanation I can think of that makes sense. Last night’s game was the best we’ve seen on a Thursday night this year. It’s almost a shame that this was stolen from regular cable audiences.
